“Give me now leave to leave thee.”

Sketchbook Story

Guys.

I need to sail out for awhile. I’ll be locking everything here down, including the comment section. I’m planning to be out for all of the second quarter of this year and some part of the third. That should put the end of my round trip sometime toward the end of summer, the beginning of fall.

*A note of clarification. Though I strongly suspect it would please a few people if this site just closed and went away, I have never had any plans to close it. People who have wasted enough time here know that this site was founded when Hot Air’s moderation rejected my comment (I maintain that it was an exceptionally brilliant comment) on a news story featuring the band Pussy Riot. I wanted a place where I could write freely. That need or desire hasn’t changed, and I don’t foresee it ever changing.

I want to tell you all this bit while I know I can: I don’t make friends easily. I’m going to miss you all. I’m too old and wise to assume that we can all just leave some pub one night and meet back months later, even if everyone were willing. Life is very much a sea, and people are carried from and toward one another, despite themselves. Letting go in the open water is risky. I’m only finding out now how much I don’t want to do it.

Yet——

I’m late. It’s time. I need to set this project, and many other second things in my life, aside for awhile. I need to finish a voyage I was crazy to start all these years ago.

It’s just a little tech company that I need to finish bolting together.

Considering the number of times I’ve revised this letter, I’m sure there’s too much more to say to say much more. And that I should stop kicking the dirt and looking around. I’m beginning to suspect shoving-off is the thing.

Big sigh.

Sketchbook powering-down, say, sometime this weekend?

Friday night, maybe?

PS. I’m not evaporating or moving to Mars. That I know of. We’ll still see each other around the galaxy.
